If your like me and a big fan of BMW’s motorway crushing 5.0-litre V10 engined M5, you will be as sad as I am to see it leave. BMW is changing the V10 in a bid to be more environmentally conscious and replacing it with a twin-turbo V8.

However, to keep our dreams alive Nowack Motors has stepped up to give the big normally aspirated lump a final farewell. Oliver Nowack has retuned the engine and dedicated it to his father Hans. By adding a new set of intake air collectors, a re-flashed ECU and a bit of massaging to the engine components, Nowack has produced the N635S 5.8 Hans Nowack Edition.

These modifications see the standard M5’s horsepower increase from a more than ample 507, to an absolutely incredible 708 hp, and yes you did read it right 708 hp ! To make it even more exciting, all the modifications are able to be retrofitted to any M5 and even the M6.

With this sort of power could this be the ultimate M5 ? To read more about this incredible car and to see the full press release check out Autoblog.

How much money can you justify to tow the kids around, do the shopping and take the dog to the park ? Well if its in the region of $86,000 then your in luck. Tuning company Heico Sportiv have had a play with Volvo’s hyper estate the V70 T6 R-Design.

According to Autoblog only 100 cars will be produced and all in metallic sapphire black, sitting on 19-inch five-spoke alloys. To aid the cars handling the suspension has been treated to an upgrade dropping the body by 30 mm, whilst out the back sits a sports exhaust to add that all important rumble. On the inside sports seats are swaddled in leather and all trim pieces are coated in a matte metal finish to match the exterior.

Its not just a lesson in dressing up an already quick car either. Heico Sportiv have also got the spanners out and re-tuned the six cylinder turbocharged lump, upping its output from 304 horsepower to 330. This gives a 0-62 time of 5.9 seconds which in anyone’s book is pretty quick.

Unfortunately the price tag is the real killer for this performance load lugger. For around the same cash you could be hitting 62 in 5.2 seconds, and pushing out 429 horsepower from your Audi S6 Avant. Or even saving some of your hard earned and picking up the excellent BMW 535i SE Touring at under $59,000. So where would your money go ?

Sony Vaio Laptop Recall: 2010 F and C Series

Sony has announced a recall on their Vaio C and C series laptops due to an overheating problem. However, the company has said that there is software available on their website that could solve the issue. The idea that your laptop could overheat is not good; this could cause serious damage and could burnout the device.

The overheating problem is a result of its internal temperature management system. If the Sony Vaio F11 and CW2 series laptops were to overheat then the keyboard along with the casing could deform, the laptop could also overheat and burn the user.

BBC News reports that Sony commented saying that this is not a recall as such because the issue can be fixed with a firmware update. It is said that 5,35,000 are affected by this problem, which included models from the Asia, Japan, UK and the U.S.

We all know how laptops are at risk from overheating, I write on a MacBook Air – we all know how hot these things run. For the software update visit Sony’s website.

Xbox 360’s Alan Wake: Half a million sales

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 game Alan Wake has been on the market for six weeks now and has reached half a million in sales – not bad for a game that does not have the same hype as Call of Duty or the Halo series. At the last count more than 26,000 copies were shifted in the week leading up to June 19, 2010.

According to Robert Cram from MSXbox who got the figures from VGChartz, believes that sales will not slow down and will continue for months to come – maybe even picking up as we get closer to the holiday season. Cram points out that there could be a surge in sales in July when new downloadable content is made available.

There are concerns that five hundred thousand copies for a game that was years in development is not that great in the grand scheme of things, but we should wait to see how things turn out in its first year. As we said the DLC will be available from next month and could increase sales – we have to wait and see.

Maybe by Christmas Alan Wake will reach one million in sales, until now just enjoy the game – you will not be disappointed.

If we were to ask you what the Terrafugia Transition was – we are certain that you would not have clue. Well this is the “world’s first flying car,” and it is legal to fly in the sky after being granted permission by the FAA, which you can read about in more detail in a previous post by Daniel.

The two creators of the vehicle has been nicknamed the “roadable aircraft” by its creators as it can drive on different surfaces and then unfold its wings and take to the sky. Those of you who would like to see this little car / aircraft in action then you had best head over to Terrafugia website where they have a host of videos and photos.

The first video is of the aircraft driving around and then speeding along a runway and taking flight, the Terrafugia Transition did not get high, but it was more about it actually getting off the ground. Some of the other videos show the car come aircraft much higher in the sky – it is certainly a strange sight.

The range of photos ready for you to start viewing shows how easily you can fit the Terrafugia Transition into a garage, driving down the road or taking its first flight. For videos click here and for photos visit here.

Sprint’s Samsung Epic 4G: AMOLED Not Retina

Samsung launched its new range of Galaxy S smartphones in New York yesterday and Sprint is to take possession of one – the Epic 4G. This will be the second 4G handset and will complement its popular HTC EVO. The first thing that you will notice with the new handset is its AMOLED screen, which Samsung believe is every bit as good at Apple’s Retina display.

That 4-inch AMOLED screen is now a staple diet on Samsung handsets, but we feel that it is a letdown when you compare this screen technology next to Apple’s retina technology from the iPhone 4. There is no denying how crisp the image is, but Joanna Stern from Engadget has yet to test it in direct sunlight.

We recently reported that the Epic 4G is Samsung’s version of the HTC EVO 4G – well apart from it being a slide-out. The Korean consumer electronics maker hopes that Sprint customers will prefer theirs to the EVO and they could be right. This latest handset could appeal to social media types as it has a slide-out keyboard.

Other features include the 1GHz Hummingbird processor from Samsung and a 5-megapixel camera. The Epic 4G will get the Android 2.2 Froyo update, but not from the factory – we reported that it will be made available later this year.

Tesla Motors IPO: Bleak Outlook

The idea of clean car technology hitting off soon is false, so you people should not be swept up by all the hype that surrounds it. The news that Tesla Motors has an IPO is the latest automaker trying to sell to investors this clean tech, but its future looks bleak.

Heidi N. Moore, contributor from Wall Street Blog believes that Tesla gives us false promises, but this did not stop its first day as an IPO from being a success. TSLA shares were estimated at $14 to $16, but they opened at $17. They went up and down throughout the days and settled at $19 – today is thought to be pretty much the same but we cannot see this same pattern carry on

There is no denying that the Tesla Roadster and sports are great cars, but paying more than $100,000 seems a lot for what you get. We wonder this is just another fad considering a few Hollywood stars have one.

Moore believes that this clean technology is still in its infancy and not ready for primetime. Let me clarify on this, yes the tech is there to be had for consumers to enjoy but as investments go – investors will not want to commit to such tech for the long term.

iPhone 4 Problems Really? Best Reception Yet

Representatives who work for AppleCare have been given a strict message to deliver to unhappy iPhone 4 customers coming in to complain about the signal problems caused by its external antenna. BGR managed to come across the leaked document that contains this blunt message.

Apple has told these reps to inform disgruntled iPhone 4 owners that the handset offers the best reception yet and that any issue with loss of signal is a fact of life. For those hoping to visit an Apple store to repair the problem, you will be shocked to learn that Apple has told them not to do so.

Jolie O’Dell from Mashable explains that Apple knows that they have a huge issue, but they still insist on telling us that we are still holding it wrong. O’Dell points out that these leaked email documents are the same statements that CEO Steve Jobs would say.

This is not good and shows that Apple has no care for its customers, they know that there is a flaw but do not seem to want to fix it – for the moment anyway. For those who have not been able to duplicate the problem like we did, then read our hands-on of this happening.

What do you think Apple should do about this problem?

Its not everyday we hear about a Flying Car, in fact this is the first for 2010. The Register reports about an FAA decision, which lets Terrafugia Transition get a weight exemption for airbags, and more.

This flying car is revolutionary, and while the airbags are no good in the air, they are important for road safety. The flying car is 110 pounds heavier than normal small planes, although Terrafugia were very happy to get the light sports aircraft classification.

Below this post you can see a 3-minute video, which shows the Transition in action with its 115 mph cruising speed, and folding wings. This may not be anything like the flying cars we could see in the future, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Could you imagine going to a car showroom and buying a flying car? Then choosing to drive or fly from the showroom, a gadget lovers dream. Watch the video below, or read more on The Register.

This is not a pipe dream; it’s reported that Terrafugia hope to commence deliveries in Q4 2011 with a price of $194,000.
