PS3’s MAG: Should you be made to wear a headset?

MAG on the PS3 is an amazing MMO shooter that was just released in the last week in both North America and the UK. The game first hit the headlines for it’s amazing 256 player online gaming, which has been designed to fit players into 8-player squads and then platoons made up of 4 squads with 4 platoons making a company.

One incentive for players is becoming a squad leader, but to do this you have to first advance through MAG’s ranking system. Today we saw an interesting post on the gaming site N4G, which had come from a site called Platform Nation and stated “Headsets Required for MAG February 10th”.

Since then we have seen the article removed from Platform Nation and set to pending on N4G after it achieved a score of over 940. This makes the creditability of this article very weak, but it still raised a good point. The over 200 comments on N4G also showed that gamers were interested in the idea of compulsory MAG headsets.

So while it may not be true that Zipper Interactive will want all players of MAG to have headsets to play the game, it may be a good idea for those in leadership positions. Commenter’s on N4G welcomed this idea; do you think it’s a good idea to make those in a leadership position wear a headset?

Vote in the poll below, and answer the question: Should you be made to wear a headset? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Amazon Pulls Titles: Apple’s new iPad vs. Kindle e-book reader

Nearly everyone expected some sort of Apple Tablet to be announced this week, and that it should be able to compete in the eBook business. This is just what happened with Apple’s unveiling of the new iPad that will be a direct competitor to Amazon’s Kindle e-book reader.

Before the same week has even ended the battle has started, today we see the headlines “Amazon Pulls Titles” from Macmillan US, which is over new e-book sale terms in the United States set by Macmillan. The iPad threat is very real to Amazon and their dominating presence in the US e-books market.

Chief executive John Sargent – Macmillan – has issued a statement that explains the new terms are based on an “agency model”. You can read more on this statement over on thebookseller.com. At the time of writing, we are not aware of any comment from Amazon about pulling Macmillan US titles or on the discussions.

Do you see the new iPad and Apple’s iBook Store as a real threat to Amazon and their Kindle? Could Apple be the biggest challenger to Amazon yet?

Some people fear that the row between Macmillan and Amazon could head to the UK, although this is just affecting the United States right now. Macmillan publishes some big titles in the UK, which include an Official Biography of the Queen Mother and children’s bestseller “The Gruffalo”. Read more on this at the Daily Mail.

Steve Jobs: New iPhone in 2010, New Macs, iPad, Adobe Flash support

When we watched Steve Jobs at the Apple event this week we were both impressed and shocked, unlike some technology sites we loved the new Apple iPad but we were shocked to hear Apple’s continued dedication to AT&T. Opening up the new iPhone in 2010 to Verizon Wireless may still happen, but became more unlikely when Apple announced their future with AT&T but not a whisper about “Verizon”.

Wired reported some news yesterday about a meeting that followed the day or two after the iPad announced. In this meeting between CEO Steve Jobs and employees he made himself available for questions, and handled some really interesting questions with even more interesting answers.

Steve Jobs confirmed the phone competition between Apple and Google, and replied with some really strong words. According to Wired, Steve even got a roar from the crowd when he used the big BULL**** word over the “don’t be evil” mantra.

Steve confirmed that Apple has no plans to support Adobe Flash in Apple’s future products; he said that the world is moving to HTML5 and no one will be using Flash. Did you want to see more Flash support?

View the article on Wired.com to read more about this, new Macs, the iPad, Blu-ray support, and a 2010 iPhone.

Honda Recall Joined By Peugeot: Cars made with Toyota

It’s been a busy few days with recall news towards the end of January 2010. We reported a few days ago that Toyota had issued a new recall list and they suspended sales of the models affected, this was followed with a Honda recall that included 646,000 Fit/Jazz and City cars.

Today we hear that the Honda and Toyota recall has been joined by Peugeot, they have issued a statement that “Peugeot 107s and Citroen C1s” will be recalled just like Toyota, which a spokesman said would be an “identical campaign as Toyota”.

According to the BBC, the reason Peugeot is issuing this recall is because the models affected are made in a Czech plant, which was a “joint venture with Toyota”. Peugeot reported that the recall would affect “under 100,000” cars. At the time of writing it is not known when this recall with start.

You can read more about the Peugeot recall on the BBC; see press releases for Toyota’s recall here. Have you been affected by the recent run of recalls?

Toyota 2010 Recall: Europe/UK models list and production periods

Toyota 2010 Recall: Europe/UK models list and production periods

The latest recall in the U.S. and Canada for certain Toyota models has now spread to Europe/UK. This is certainly not a great start to 2010 for the Japanese automaker, which have been forced to suspend the sales of 8 new models.

The Financial Times reports that the reason for the recall is due to a faulty accelerator pedal, with some sticking down or coming up slowly. This has had a serious effect on Toyota’s shares and has also damaged the reputation of the company. Some of the eight models to be recalled include the Auris, Aygo, Avensis and the Corolla.

This latest recall is already on top of the 2.3 million Toyota vehicles recalled due to another gas pedal problem, as they would often stick to the floor mats. That issue was solved, but this is a separate problem, the Japanese automaker already has a remedy for the problem and is now contacting dealers and customers on how they can fix it.

Toyota has said that they have not had any reports of incidents in Europe and the UK. There are no plans to suspend sales in this region as they have done in the U.S. and Canada.

What is Toyota’s pain is Ford and General Motors gain, we recently reported that Ford and GM have reported stronger sales since this latest round of recalls. Toyota needs to solve the issue and quick, otherwise we will see Ford become the number one car seller in the U.S.
